Richard Hall received his early musical training at Berkshire
Junior Music School, later pursuing private studies on organ
with Rodney Baldwyn at Pershore Abbey, and on piano with Frank
Wibaut, gaining diplomas in both instruments.
Alongside his career in banking and finance he has occupied
a number of church organist posts and in 1988 he was appointed
as Organist and Choirmaster of St Mary's Church, Old Swinford.
He quickly re-established a thriving choir with a full programme
of sung services and regular cathedral visits, and supervised
a major redesign and rebuilding of St Mary's fine pipe organ.
He has been an active teacher and four of his recent organ
pupils have been awarded organ scholarships to Oxford colleges.
He retired from St Mary's last year but continues to act as
organist and accompanist to Old Swinford Hospital School and
Kings Edward VI College.
He has a long association with the Victorian concert organ
in West Bromwich Town Hall where he has given an annual recital
since its 1984 restoration was completed, including an anniversary
replica of the 1878 opening recital, and has twice broadcast
this organ on Radio WM. Other recital venues over the years
include Worcester and Liverpool Cathedrals and he has recently
accompanied a number of concerts with Brierley Hill Choral
Society.
Richard lives in Stourbridge with his wife, Judy, and they
have three grown-up sons.
